LOUIS ALEXANDER PALESTRA: Rochester scored seven of the last eight points in the decisive game five and defeated Houghton College, 3-2, in a women's volleyball match on Tuesday evening.
 
Houghton captured the first set, 25-18, but Rochester won the next two, 25-23 and 25-18. The Highlanders reasserted themselves, hitting .273 in the fourth set to win, 25-18, and sent it to set five.
 
The win boosted Rochester's record to 7-6. Houghton is 7-3. The Yellowjackets travel to Waltham, MA this weekend for the first of three University Athletic Association round robins. UR will play 12^th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, second-ranked Emory, and host Brandeis in the two-day event.
 

Set five was tight early. Rochester edged in front, 6-5, on a kill by Sonia McGaffigan. Houghton answered with a six-point run, taking advantage of two attack errors and a bad set by the Yellowjackets plus kills from Alyssa Lyon and Brooke Lewandowski.
 
Kiara Carrasquilla was successful on a kill to start the burst. She had an error, but Beth Ghyzel got the point right back, with a kill from Isabelle Miranda. That made it 12-8, Houghton.
 
UR got a kill from Carrasquilla, an ace by Ghyzel, and took advantage of three attack errors by the Highlanders to edge ahead, 13-12. Haley Underdorben's kill made it 13-13. Carrasquilla's ninth kill of the match put UR ahead, 14-13 and Tamera Shaw finished it with a kill from Miranda.
 
Shaw finished with 14 kills and four block assists. Carrasquilla had nine kills, four block assists, and nine digs. McGaffigan had seven kills. Ghyzel added nine, two aces, and 15 digs. Megan Hauer had 13 digs. Miranda registered 36 assists and Renae Lapins had eight.
 
Houghton's attack leaders were Lewandowski with 13 and Amy Huddell with 10. Jamiee Glendenning had nine plus 12 digs. Morgan Potempa led everyone in digs with 25. She also had four aces. Ally Bittinger had 14. Unverdorben had 35 assists, 11 digs, four kills, and five aces.
