HAMILTON, NY – Division I Colgate defeated the University of Rochester 6-1 in men's tennis action on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Field House.
Rochester moves to 3-3 on the season while the host Raiders improve to 5-3 in dual competition. The Yellowjackets next match takes place on Friday at Oberlin College. UR then plays against Case Western Reserve on Sunday to finish off its Ohio road trip.
UR's lone point in the match came from
Pasquale Procaccino at the #3 singles spot. Procaccino won in a tough 3-set affair, taking the opening set 7-6, before seeing his opponent, Peter Hartman, win the second 6-4. In the tiebreaking third set, Procaccino edged out an 11-9 win.
Colgate swept all three doubles matches, but UR did not go down without a fight to their D-I counterparts. At #1,
Runjia Fang and
Mark Zolotukhin fell 7-5. Both the #2 team of Proccacino and
Matt Resnikoff and the #3 team of
Yifan Shen and
Tanmay Thakkar lost by 6-4 set scores.
In singles, the rest of Colgate's wins were in straight sets. Both Fang and Procacino ended up taking four total games from their opponents at #1 and #6 respectively.
