Hamilton Scores in first OT to Defeat Rochester, 2-1

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Alana King scored four minutes into the first sudden death overtime period to give Hamilton College a 2-1 field hockey victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Wednesday evening.

This was the 10th win of the season for Hamilton (10-5) and its third straight victory. Rochester is 11-6 overall. In their last outing, the Yellowjackets clinched a Liberty League playoff berth by defeating RPI, 4-0, on the road. Rochester will be the #4 seed for the Liberty League playoffs next week. UR closes its regular season with a 1 pm match on Saaturday against SUNY Geneseo.

Juney Lee put Rochester ahead in the sixth minute of play. UR earned a penalty corner. Mara Heppard pushed it to the top of the circle where Amanda Strenk deflected it further to her right. Lee collected the deflection, took a couple of strides and lined a shot to the low left corner of the net, beyond the reach of Maggie Reville. She finished with seven saves and Keely Duran had a defensive save for Hamilton on a shot by Rochester's Karina Bridger. That occurred just before the penalty corner and the Rochester goal.

Abbie Walrond made 10 saves for Rochester. Heppard helped with two defensive saves in the same sequence. Those occurred with just over six minutes left in regulation. She stopped a shot by King from four yards out, then reached out with the stick to block a followup shot by Becca Munoz.

Hamilton evened the score at 1-1with just over 90 seconds left in the first half. As Hamilton penetrated the circle, Walrond tipped the ball away from Grace Chapis. It came to Munoz who slid it back to Chapis positioned on the endline just outside the left post. She shot the equalizer into the lower left hand corner.
