NYU Edges Rochester, 1-0, in Women's Soccer UAA Match

NEW YORK – NYU scored a goal late in the first half and defended it to post a 1-0 women's soccer victory over the University of Rochester during the noon hour on Friday. The match was played at Manhattan College.

The win is the first University Athletic Association triumph for NYU this season (8-6 overall, 1-4 UAA). Rochester is 6-4-4 overall, 0-2-3 in the UAA. On Sunday, the Yellowjackets will play at Brandeis University (11 a.m. start). Rochester closes the regular season on November 6, hosting Emory University. NYU hosts Emory this Sunday.

Rochester peppered the NYU goal with shots, particularly in the second half. Neither team could muster a consistent attack in the first 45 minutes (two shots apiece). NYU broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. Izze Ching collected a pass from Ellie Marks and drove it into the upper right portion of the goal from 10 yards out.

Midway through the second half, Hailee Mitchell drove a shot wide right for the Yellowjackets. Megan Pung fired over the bar twice. As the scoreboard clock ticked below eight minutes, Emma Schechter kept the deficit at one goal when she made a save from Dominique Bevacqua.

In the closing minutes, Emma Cohen's shot was blocked away for a corner kick. With less than three minutes left, Robin de Jong shot midway into the box on the left side, but it was saved by NYU's Riley Felsher. A minute later, Natalie Kocsis came through on the right side and shot for the far post, but Felsher was able to save it.

Felsher finished with four saves. Schechter had three stops.
