SELINSGROVE, PA – Rochester strung together good rallies in the first and third sets on Friday evening, but the Yellowjackets fell to York College of Pennsylvania at a four-team volleyball tournament at Susquehanna College.

York improved to 11-4 overall after posting a 25-21, 25-7, 25-22 victory over Rochester. The Yellowjackets are 5-11. UR will play Stevens on Saturday followed by a match against host Susquehanna.

Zaira Reyes and
Sonia McGaffigan made a duo blocking at the net, particularly in the third set. Reyes finished with five total blocks and McGaffigan had three.
Megan Gatz had one block.

La'i Yuen had two service aces and two digs.
Ella Sokolowski had two service aces as well. Gatz had one block. Reyes led the Yellowjackets in blocks with 5.Â
Ana Cerezer had nine digs. Gatz had six. The kill leaders were Gatz with six, McGaffigan and
Kellie McCrea with four apiece.

In the first set, the Spartans jumped ahead, 14-10. Rochester drew within 16-18, before York went on another mini-burst to lead 23-17. Rochester answered with four quick points: kills by McGaffigan and Gatz, a solo block by Reyes, and an ace from Yuen. That made it 23-21 York before the Spartans added two points to nail it down.

Rochester put together one of its best runs of the season in the third set. Down 22-13, the Yellowjackets scored eight consecutive points, seven served by Sokolowski: York committed an attack error, McGaffigan had a kill, McGaffigan and Reyes paired for a block (22-16), York committed another attack error, Sokolowski served an ace, followed by another McGaffigan/Reyes block pairing (22-19). Sokolowski served her second ace in the run and McGaffigan and Reyes combined for their third block of sprint. That made it 23-21.
