Rochester Duels #7 Chicago to a 1-1 Double OT Tie in Women's Soccer

CHICAGO – For the second time this season, the women's soccer team at the University of Rochester produced a dramatic result against a top 10 team on the road.

This time, it was a 1-1 double overtime tie at seventh-ranked Chicago on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are ranked #7 in the Division III poll conducted by the United Soccer Coaches. Chicago is 10-0-2 overall, 1-0-1 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is 5-3-2, 0-1-1 in the UAA.

On September 11, Rochester dueled then-second-ranked William Smith College to a 0-0 double overtime tie in Geneva.

The Yellowjackets burst on the scoreboard just 29 seconds into the match. Robin de Jong took a shot that was parried by Chicago keeper Miranda Malone. Claire Grover was there to convert the rebound for her sixth goal of the season.

A little over a minute later, UC's Adriana Shutler hit the crossbar with a shot. That started a surge of six Chicago shots in the next 27 minutes. Rochester goalkeeper Emma Schechter made one save and forced four other shots to be off target.

UC evened the score from the penalty spot. Hannah Rittenhouse scored the equalizer with just less than 10 minutes left in the first half. In the second half, Schechter produced four saves on 12 Chicago shots. Nicole Kaspi hit the post with a try in the 66th minute.

Schechter denied Rittenhouse a second goal several times, including the last minute of the first overtime and the 107th minute. With less than 30 seconds to play, UC's Maddie DeVoe was wide right on a shot.

Next weekend, Rochester returns to the Brian Prince Athletic Complex to host Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve at Edwin Fauver Stadium. The women will host CMU at 5 pm on Friday, the 15th. Case Western Reserve comes to tow on Sunday at 11 am.
