Leahy Throws No-Hitter in Game One of DH Sweep Over Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY  - Hannah Leahy pitched the seventh no-hitter in Rochester's softball history to key a sweep of a doubleheader at Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon. Emily Sharlach spun a two-hitter in game two. Rochester won the opener, 13-0, and took the nightcap, 7-0.

This was the first no-hitter for the Yellowjackets in five years. Kathy Gagne threw the first one in 2002. Brittany Grage pitched her first no-hitter in 2013. She earned her second one with a perfect game in the Liberty League playoffs in 2014. Eleni Wechsler had three no-hitters – one in 2014, then two in 2016.

Rochester scored all 13 runs in the first inning. Toni Anne Hahn and Alexis Pope hit grand slams. Alexis Klee hit a bases loaded triple and was able to score herself when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Allison Beckwith hit a solo HR that inning as well. Hannah Gilbreath, Pope, Marissa Russo, Hahn, and Beckwith scored two runs apiece in the inning. Madi Turner, Klee, and Hannah Keiper scored once each.

The first three hitters walked – Russo, Gilbreath, and Keiper – before Hahn hit the first home run of the inning.

Alexis Pope
Pope had a six-RBI day, including a game one grand slam.
Leahy walked the first hitter she faced. A fielder's choice and a stolen base put a runner at first with one down. She earned a strikeout and a flyout to end the inning. She set down the Thoroughbreds in order over the next two innings. Skidmore got two on in the fourth, courtesty of a walk and an infield error. In the fifth, Leahy opened with a strikeout, then two groundouts. She raised her season record to 8-3.

Turner was 3 for 4. Pope was 2 for 4, Beckwith 2 for 2, and Russo 2 for 3.

In game two, Sharlach allowed three hits and two walks with three strikeouts to pick up her seventh win of the campaign (7-2). Jen Carson and Pope drove in two runs each. Keiper had one RBI. The Yellowjackets collected 11 hits – two apiece by Carson and Keiper.

In the first inning, Keiper singled home Russo and a second run brought home Gilbreath. The bats were quiet for three innings, but tacked on three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Klee and Russo scored early in the fifth. The Hahn came home on Pope's RBI single. In the seventh inning, Carson hit a triple that scored Alizah Ayon and Hahn.

Rochester boosted its record to 21-6 overall, 15-2 in the Liberty League. Skidmore is 2-4 overall and in the league. The teams will play a Sunday doubleheader at Southside Field with game one starting at 1 pm.
