Women's Soccer Posts 3-0 Road Win at Alfred

ALFRED, NY – The University of Rochester women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season, shutting out Alfred University 3-0, in non-league action on Saturday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

Rochester moves to 2-2-1 on the season, with both wins coming in road contests by 3-0 scores. Alfred, meanwhile, falls to 3-2-2 on the year with the loss.

The Yellowjackets got goals from Robin de Jong, Kailee Sowers and Emma Saubermann in the victory, while also limiting the host Saxon's to just five shot attempts, one shot on goal and two corner kicks. All five of Alfred's shot attempts came in the first half as well.

Rochester meanwhile, racked up 31 shot attempts, 14 of which were on target and eight corners.

Goalkeeper Emma Schechter was forced to make just one save in the shutout, her third clean sheet of the season in four appearances.

Alfred starting keeper Hannah Fuller made nine saves while surrendering three goals, while Krissy Chapman played the final 18 minutes and made one save.

UR got the scoring started in the 27th minute when de Jong headed in a pass from Megan Pung which came shortly after the Yellowjackets earned a corner kick.

Despite the lopsided stats, Rochester just held the one goal advantage at intermission.

The lead doubled to 2-0 in the 60th minute when Sowers notched her first goal of the year, connecting on a pass from Claire Grover. It was the senior co-captains first career goal for Rochester.

Ten minutes later, Saubermann also earned her first career goal, boosting the UR lead to 3-0, with Syd Coggins picking up the assist on the play.

In the closing minutes, Lexi Bostley nearly made it 4-0 Rochester, but defender Andrea McMahon was able to make a strong defensive play, keeping Bostley's shot out of the net.

Rochester's next contest is Wednesday evening at 7 pm on the road against Keuka College.
