Big Save Late Preserves 1-1 Men's Soccer Tie with Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – Santino Lupica-Tondo made a big save on a close-in header in the last three minutes of overtime as Rochester dueled SUNY Geneseo to a 1-1 double-OT tie in men's soccer.

It's Rochester's second road tie in two OTs. The Yellowjackets battled John Carroll University to a 0-0 finish in Ohio at the start of the season. Rochester is 4-0-2. Geneseo is 3-2-2.

His clutch save came on a header in the second OT. Matt Volz, who had been denied on a low shot two minutes earlier, tried a header off a free kick about 10 yards outside the area. The ball was chipped into the box. Volz got a head on it from seven yards out, but Lupica-Tondo punched it over the bar. The ensuing corenr kick was harmless.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Santi Ponce Ocampo in the 14th minute. The hosts got even in the 41st minute. Geneseo earned a corner kick. Vasion Sinjari chipped it to the near post and Justin Arilotta slid it just inside the post before Lupica-Tondo could get to it.

He repelled a couple of Geneseo rushes at goal, making three saves in a 10-minute stretch early in the second half, and holding the fort with three more saves in six minutes in the last 10 minutes of regulation. He finished with eight saves. His counterpart, Alex Lopez, made seven saves for the Knights.
