PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – University of Rochester men's soccer picked up their second-straight conference result, battling the New York University Violets to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Charlie Shanks picked up the game's first shot, firing an opening salvo that was blocked just 14 seconds into the opening period.
Tony Hypsher then notched the first shot on goal, forcing Luca Mancuso to make the first of his two saves with his 6th-minute shot.
Tyler Moran added another shot on goal in the 14th minute, before Arkan Tahsildaroglu took NYU's first shot in the 18th minute, but
Santino Lupica-Tondo made his first save of the day to keep the Violets off the scoreboard.
In the 27th minute, the Violets nearly broke the seal, with a give-and-go capped off by a close shot by Tahsildaroglu, but Lupica-Tondo made a leaping save.
A few minutes later, Collin Canning fired one in off the crossbar, while a follow-up attempt setup by
Avi Lamba's cross was called off due to a foul.
Ben Trask and the Violets got one shot off before the end of the first half, before Nathan Bennett's 47th-minute shot curled from the right wing toward the far post, but another Lupica-Tondo save kept the two sides level.
The 'Jackets and Violets would remain scoreless till the 81st minute when Elijose Araujo knocked in a score off
Kol Bassuk's assist in the scramble following a Rochester corner, giving UR a 1-0 lead.
But just minutes later, Tahsildaroglu evened the score at one-all, curling one in directly off a corner kick to tie the score at one.
And while the Yellowjackets tallied three shots in the waning moments, Mancuso and the NYU defense kept Rochester off the scoreboard to finish off the 1-1 draw.
Rochester moves to 6-2-4 (1-1-2 UAA) on the year, while NYU sits at 6-4-2 (2-1-1 UAA) following the result.
Araujo,
Joe Anderson, Bassuk and Moran each tallied two shots, with Araujo notching UR's lone goal and Bassuk the assist.
Lupica-Tondo made six saves in goal as Rochester outshot NYU, 13-9.
Rochester next wraps up their home slate with a Senior Day matchup against Alvernia University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
