Houston, Varsity 8 Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

TROY, NY – University of Rochester field hockey first-year goalie Kara Houston and the women's rowing varsity eight took home Liberty League Weekly Honors, as announced by the conference on Monday.
 
Houston, making just her third and fourth starts of the year in goal, earns Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors after holding a pair of Liberty League foes scoreless in victories over Ithaca and Union to clinch the Liberty League field hockey regular season title.
 
Against the Bombers, Houston held Ithaca scoreless for nearly 77 minutes, making nine saves while facing 18 shots, while against Union, Houston faced seven shots and made five saves in the victory.
 
For the week, Houston faced 25 shots, making 14 saves and earning a pair of shutout wins to help clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
 
This season, Houston's seen action in 11 games, making four starts and tallying 32 saves.
 
Houston earns Liberty League honors for the first time in her career and is the second Yellowjacket to earn Defensive Performer of the Week honors this season, following Elisabeth Sidorski on Sept. 26.
 
Rochester's Varsity 8 earns Liberty League women's rowing boat of the week honors for the second time this season after competing competed at the Head of the Charles and picking up some nice wins with its 18th-place result.
 
Overall, 36 boats competed at the regatta, representing a variety of divisions, including 14 of the 15 teams ranked in the spring 2022 final Division III poll. The Yellowjackets team finished with a time of 17:23.61 across the course setup along the Charles River. Rochester ranked 13th in the final spring 2022 Division III poll and finished ahead of ranked teams Ithaca (#4), Colby (#11), Coast Guard (#9), Smith (#14) and Washington College (#15) during Sunday's racing.
 
Junior coxswain Caroline Murphy led Rochester's Varsity 8 boat along with Elizabeth Martin, Taylor Brown, Ava Prevey-Sullivan, Margaret Donovan, Angela Browning, Hope Havenhill, Madeleine LaChance and Hannah Zerman.
 
The Yellowjacket field hockey team is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 26 against St. John Fisher University at 7 p.m. at Fauver Stadium, while women's rowing next heads to Philadelphia, PA the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m.
