Yellowjackets Down Fisher, 2-0, in Regular Season, Home Finale

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – University of Rochester field hockey recorded their fourth-straight shutout, defeating the St. John Fisher University Cardinals, 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Edwin Fauver Stadium to wrap up their 2022, regular season home slate.

Just over three minutes into the match, Anya Arseneau gave the Yellowjackets the lead.  Sophia Trozzi saved Maeve Fogarty's opening salvo, but Arseneau knocked in the rebound right in front of the net to give UR an early 1-0 lead.

Playing from in front, Rochester would pick up their first of two penalty corners in the 9th minute, but Vivianna Arnold's 9th-minute shot was saved, preventing the 'Jackets from extending their lead any further.

Fogarty and Karina Bridger each added another shot before the end of the period, both of which went wide, while Zoe Conomikes got things started to open the second quarter, with another shot just wide.

In the 18th minute, Bridger fired another shot on goal that was saved by Trozzi, while Delainey Hebble followed on the rebound, but sent it in wide.

Fogarty nearly made it 2-0 off Conomikes cross in the 20th minute, forcing another Trozzi save, as the Yellowjackets sent six second-quarter shots and 11 first-half shots at the Cardinals' keeper.

Arnold notched an impressive shot in the 22nd minute, firing one in with her back turned toward the goal, but Trozzi knocked it down and made another save.

St. John Fisher then looked to tie things up before the end of the half, but Kara Houston kept Gianna Palma's shot out of the goal, and Jodie Zeng notched a defensive save on Audrey Grieb's shot to keep UR's lead at 1-0 heading into the half.

Rochester continued to pepper Trozzi in the third, with another six shots, as early shots by Bridger and Conomikes went wide, while Trozzi made another save on Bridger's shot in the 39th minute.

In the 41st minute, the Cardinals matched UR's defensive save, with Emma Muchow stopping Mara Heppard's shot, while Houston made another save in the waning moments of the third, and UR took a 1-0 lead into the fourth.

Conomikes though, gave Rochester some breathing room a few minutes into the final frame, with a turnaround blast sent by the keeper from about 10-yards out, extending UR's lead to 2-0.

That'd be all Rochester needed, as the 'Jackets' defense held St. John Fisher without a shot in the fourth to finish off the 2-0, shutout victory.

Rochester moves to 14-4 with the win, earning their fourth-straight shutout, their longest shutout streak since 2018, while Fisher drops to 7-10.

Bridger led UR with eight shots and Fogarty tallied five, with Arseneau and Conomikes finding the back of the net. In goal, Houston made three saves, facing four shots.
