PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – University of Rochester men's soccer battled the Washington University in St. Louis Bears to a scoreless draw on Sunday at Francis Field, earning their first point in conference play.
Though neither side was able to find the back of the net, the 'Jackets and Bears combined for 27 shots, as
Santino Lupica-Tondo and Matt Martin combined to make 11 saves.
Ashton Prescott got the Yellowjackets going offensively in the first save with a shot at Martin in the seventh minute, setting up the first of four Rochester corners.
Then Shiv Lamba, brother of Rochester's
Avi Lamba, sent a pair of shots just wide of Lupica-Tondo a little over 10 minutes into the match.

Joe Anderson forced another two saves by Martin in the 20th and 21st minutes, while Lupica-Tondo made his first save of the afternoon in the 36th minute on a shot by John Daniels.
Prescott got off another shot on goal before the end of the first half, while Gavin Morse's shot was blocked, and the two sides headed into halftime without a goal.
Morse got things started in the second half for WashU, with a shot on goal saved by Lupica-Tondo and then a header shot that went just wide right.
In the 64th minute,
Kol Bassuk got his head on the ball, but his header went just wide, while
Tony Hypsher's 70th-minute shot was saved by Martin.
Down the stretch, both sides looked to break the seal on the nets, with five shots over the final 10 minutes.
Landon Green's high shot got things started for WashU, while Canning's header off
Andrew Moglianesi's corner sailed high.
Nick Swanger followed the header up with a shot that nearly found the lower, right corner, but Martin made his sixth and final save, keeping Rochester from taking a 1-0 lead.
WashU then looked to score in the waning moment, with Zach Susee forcing a Lupica-Tondo save and the Bears soon after earning a corner in the 89th minute. But Rochester's defense held firm and posted their fifth shutout of the year to finish off the scoreless draw.
Rochester moves to 5-2-3 (0-1-1 UAA) on the year, while WashU picks up their first draw, moving to 5-3-1 (1-0-1 UAA).
Canning, Moglianesi and Prescott each led Rochester with two shots, while Lupica-Tondo made five saves.
The Yellowjackets next host Brandeis University on Friday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. at Fauver Stadium, kicking off a three-game homestand with a pair of conference contests against the Judges and NYU.
