ITHACA, NY – 8th-ranked Cornell University won a battle between the top two collegiate squash teams in New York State, defeating the #11 University of Rochester 8-1 on Tuesday evening at the Belkin Squash Courts.
Rochester drops to 1-3 on the young season, as the Big Red stay perfect at 3-0 so far in 2022-23.
The Yellowjackets got their lone victory on the ladder from #2 player
Yash Fadte. Fadte dropped the opening set against Aaron Liang 11-3, but rallied for three straight wins, earning the point following 11-4, 11-7 and 11-8 game scores.
Fadte's win closed out the first wave of matches with Rochester trailing 2-1 after Cornell got wins at #9 and #6.
At the nine spot, Nicholas Errington defeated
Alejandro Porras in four games, with UR's Porras earning a 12-10 game win in the third, before Errington closed out the victory with and 11-3 triumph in the fourth.
It was a 3-0 sweep at number six, as Rohan Iyer topped
Emilio Carrillo 11-6, 11-3 and 11-7.
Wave two saw Cornell earn all three points and clinch the overall match with points from #8, #1 and #5.
After Morgan Huberman topped
Tom Whiteley in three games at eight, Cornell's All-American in Veer Chotrani won at the top spot over
Abdelrahman Lasheen.
Chotrani and Lasheen battled to three evenly match games, with the Big Red player winning 11-8, 11-8 and 11-8.
Humza Khan defeated
Jake Koeppel at #5 for the clinching point, winning in four games, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8 and 11-4.
To round out the win, Cornell got victories in the final wave from Arnaav Sareen over
Luis Moncada, Spencer Yager over
Omar Zakaria and Tanay Punjabi over
Quinlan Jeudy. All three were by 3-0 scores.
Rochester's next matches take place on December 2 through 4. UR takes on Chatham University, University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University in the three-match weekend.
