Boasting multiple highly ranked players in its lineup, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The loss drops Rochester to 0-2 on the young season, while the Engineers have jumped out to a 2-0 start in 2022.

First-year
Krish Vennam had the most success on court against his Engineers opponents. In doubles, Vennam paired with
Pasquale Procaccino to fall in a tight battle, 8-7 (3) to Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Peter Lohrbach at the #1 doubles spot.

In singles, Vennam lost in straight sets to Abraham Yohannes, the #22 ranked individual in Division III, but more than held his own. Yohannes won the opening set and needed a tiebreak in the second set to win the match, 7-5, 7-6 (5).

Rounding out doubles play,
Kai Yuminaga and
Kei Ogawa dropped an 8-5 decision at #2 while
Adrian Zhang and
Kenneth Lee fell 8-2 at #3.

In singles, Procaccino was faced with the tough test of playing Drover-Mattinen, the #11 player in Division III at the top spot in the lineup. Drover-Mattinen earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory, posting the clinching point of the match.

Yuminaga was defeated 7-5, 6-0 at #3 by Igor Visnevskij and Ogawa fell 6-1, 6-1 to Lohrbach at #4.

Rounding out the match, Zhang lost 6-2, 6-1 at #5 to Bryce Burnham and Suhas Krishnan defeated
John Hui 6-4, 6-3 at #6.

Rochester is home for two matches next weekend, continuing its early season home stand. The Yellowjackets play Union on Saturday before entertaining Division I Colgate on Sunday.
