WALPOLE, MA – The University of Rochester men's tennis team capped off its weekend of competition in Massachusetts with a 9-0 sweep over Emerson College on Sunday afternoon.
In total, five Yellowjackets were double-winners on the day, helping Rochester move to 3-4 on the dual match season. Emerson drops to 3-9.
The sweep began with three convincing wins in doubles.
Pasquale Procaccino and
Krish Vennam blanked their opponents 8-0 at #2, while
Adrian Zhang and
Kei Ogawa paired for an 8-2 win at #3.
Runjia Fang and
Kai Yuminaga were tested at #1, but emerged with an 8-4 victory to give Rochester its 3-0 lead.
In singles, all six matches went in straight sets in favor of the Yellowjackets. Fang was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at #2 over Maximo Lawlor to put Rochester up 4-0. Vennam followed with the match-clinching point in a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ryu Watanabe at #3 singles.
Procaccino took a 6-3, 6-3 match at the top spot over Bass Lin while Yuminaga won 6-3, 6-0 at #4, defeating Pete Sevikul. Zhang followed suit with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 against Daniel Kennedy and
Kenneth Lee completed the shutout win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Cooper Sherman.
Rochester's next match is slated for Wednesday at home against Ithaca.
