Ninth-ranked Ithaca Snaps Rochester's Three-Game Winning Streak

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Ithaca College broke open a close game with six goals in the second period and went on to an 18-7 women's lacrosse victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
 
This was Ithaca's seventh win in eight matches. The Bombers, ranked #9 in the current IWLCA Division III poll, are 3-1 in the Liberty League. Rochester had a three-match winning streak snapped. The Yellowjackets are 4-4 overall, 2-3 in the Liberty League. UR will host Nazareth College on Friday at 4 pm in Fauver Stadium.
 
Caroline Wise led Ithaca with six goals.  Megan Motkowski had four goals. Maizy Veitch and Maddie Halll scored three times apiece and Sydney Phillips scored twice. Veitch had four of Ithaca's nine assists. Wise had two. Madison Boutureira and Chloe Nordyke had one each.
 
Rochester's scoring leader was Gracie Giannettino with four goals. Emma Little, Brooke Fiannaca and Mia Perkel scored one goal apiece. Lucy Haggerty had three UR assists and Giannettino had one.

Lindsey caused four turnovers.
 
Wise had 11 draw controls. Ithaca won 20 draws as a team.. In the second period, the Bombers won all seven draws. They scored six goals to stretch their margin to 11-3 at halftime.
 
Veitch scored twice in the first eight minutes as Ithaca jumped in front, 4-1. Perkell scored the UR goal in a Man Up situation. Rochester found a couple of seams in the Ithaca defense and scored twice in 41 seconds. Little cut the deficit to 4-2 with 4:55 left in the first quarter and Fiannaca made it 4-3 with 4:14 remaining. Haggerty assisted on both scores.
 
Motkowski scored just seven seconds before the end of the first period and that left Ithaca in front, 5-3. Wise struck with 11:33 left in the second. Shortly after the midpoint of the second quarter, Ithaca went on a flurry, scoring four goals in less than four minutes.
 
Kate Lindsey caused four turnovers for Rochester. She also collected a team-high four ground balls. Grace Crochiere had three ground balls and won four draw controls. Haggerty won three draws.
 
In goal, Aca Saffren played 54:16. She made 11 saves and gave up 17 goals. Sami Dinhofer allowed one goal in 5:44. The Ithaca goalie was Lexi Held. She played the first three quarters, making four saves and allowing five goals. Kayla Howley played the fourth quarter with two goals allowed and one save.
