Another One Hitter for Sharlach as Softball Sweeps Brockport

SOUTHSIDE FIELD – Rochester's pitchers shut down the College at Brockport and the UR bats produced again as the Yellowjackets swept a doubleheader from the Golden Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rochester winning streak is now 12 games after as 7-1 win in game one and an 8-0 victory in five innings in the nightcap. Rochester is 14-12 overall. The Yellowjackets are 6-0 in the Liberty League (this was a non-league DH). They will host St. Lawrence on Saturday and Clarkson on Sunday in league games. Brockport is 9-13.

Abbie Biggs threw four innings of five-hit ball in game two and Christine Napierkowski allowed one hit in the last three innings to close it out. Biggs is 4-1. In game two, Emily Sharlach pitched her second straight shutout, this time a one-hitter with one walk. It is her fourth win and her second consecutive one-hitter.

Game One:
Rochester 7, Brockport 1:
The Yellowjackets jumped in front right away with three runs in the first on two doubles, a triple, and a single. Ally Kim grounded the ball up the middle and ran it into a double. She was tripled home by Bailey Nicholoff. Hannah Keiper's groundout made it 2-0. Hunter Gilbreath doubled and was singled home by Molly Mason.

Kim doubled home Alexis Klee in the second. In the third, Mason and Castilloux hit back to back doubles for two more runs. Brockport's Morgan Skpowski doubled, took third on a groundout, and scored when an infield grounder was booted. That was in the third. Biggs got an inning-ending popout double play in the fourth. Brockport put two aboard with two down in the fifth. Napierowski settled in. She retired seven in a row to end the game: two fly balls, four groundouts, and an infield pop.
Hannah Keiper
Keiper had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.

Game Two:
Rochester 8, Brockport 0:
UR had early power from Bryce West who hit home runs in her first two plate appearances. With two down in the first, Keiper singled through the left side. West then drove a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead. She hit her second of the afternoon with two outs in the third.

In the fifth, the Yellowjackets plated five runs to end the game on the mercy rule. Kim singled  with one out and stole second. Nicholoff singled her to third, then promptly stole second. Keiper doubled into the left field corner, scoring both runners. As the throw reach the infield, she advanced to third. When it got away past first base, she scored to make it 6-0 Rochester. West was retired for out number two.

Castilloux and Gilbreath walked. Mason doubled up the middle to score Castilloux. Madi Turner ended the game when her ground ball to the left side was fumbled, allowing Gilbreath to score the game-ending eighth run.

Sharlach was helped by a terrific defensive play in the top of the first. Olivia Hayden reached on an error. Cameryn Duggan bunted and was thrown out at first by Turner throwing to Mason. Hayden roared around second and tried to advance to third. Mason fired the ball across the diamond to Gilbreath who had moved up to cover third base. She tagged out Hayden in a collision. Kellie Gentile singled in the third for the Golden Eagles' hit and Molly Ryan walked in the fourth.
