Five Regional Qualifiers For 'Jackets On Day 1 At Geneseo Quad

GENESEO, NY – Despite only four events being completed on Saturday, the University of Rochester women's track and field team grabbed five All-Atlantic Regional qualifying berths on day one at the SUNY Geneseo Quad Meet.
 
Rochester earned three AARTFC performances in the 10000 meters and two others in the discus as the Yellowjacket women sit in third place in the team standings after Saturday's events.
 
Sennett Turner led the way for UR's contingent in the 10k, crossing the finish in 39:53.54, placing third. She, along with Rachel Dennis in fourth and Ella Wise Bellin in fifth cracked the regional standard, while Alicia Lawson just missed but grabbed a point for the team with her sixth place run. Dennis' time was 39:59.40 and Wise Bellin clocked in at 40:09.95.
 
In the discus, Cora Rose finished fourth with her Atlantic Region mark of 37.48 meters, while teammate Gillian Reeder was sixth with a toss of 36.59 meters.
 
Reeder led the Yellowjacket throwers in the javelin as well, ending fourth with a mark of 33.23 meters. Iris Chi just missed a scoring spot for UR in the javelin, placing seventh with a distance of 28.91 meters.
 
In the heptathlon, senior Eileen Bequette sits second among 13 individuals with 2,697 points through four contested events. Bequette placed second in the high jump and 200 meters, was third in the 100 meter hurdles and finished fourth in the shot put on the opening day of the competition.
 
The fourth event contested on Saturday was the 5000 meters, with Kyra Sandercock, Rochester's top finisher, placing 12th in 19:22.48.
