Rochester Scores Top-10 Finish At Regionals

BETHLEHEM, PA – The University of Rochester women's track and field team had a trio of scoring performances, including two in the top-3, on day two of the All-Atlantic Regional Championships on Thursday afternoon at Moravian College, helping the Yellowjackets to a solid top-10 result in the team standings.
 
Rochester accumulated 40 team points over the two-day meet, ranking seventh of over 40 schools that scored at least one point. The Yellowjackets entered the meet ranked #13 in latest Division III rankings. Western New York rival SUNY Geneseo claimed the team title with 129 total points.
 
On Thursday, junior Madeline O'Connell was a big scorer for the Yellowjackets, finishing second of 32 runners in the 400 meters, racking up eight points for the team. Her time was 55.35 seconds and was a new personal best and is the second quickest time in UR history.
 
O'Connell joined three others, Kate Isaac, Susan Bansbach and Ashley Heffernan on the Rochester 4x100 meter relay which ended third of 17 teams with a time of 47.53 seconds, also the second best in UR history.
 
Heffernan finished as the third of Rochester's scorers, ranking seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish in 15.24 seconds.
 
UR had three runners in the 200 meters. Bansbach paced the Yellowjackets in 12th place, running a time of 25.45 seconds. Isaac ran a personal-best of 25.59 seconds to finish 16th and teammate Kristin Hardy was 26th in 26.01 seconds.
 
In the long jump, junior Alyssa Hoogs placed 15th with a leap of 5.40 meters. Eileen Bequette ended 24th in 5.10 meters.
 
Rounding out Rochester's competitors, Lisa Pink placed 25th in the 800 meters in 2:28.12 while Gillian Reeder competed in the hammer throw for the Yellowjackets.
 
Selections for the NCAA Division III Championships, UR's final meet of the season, are scheduled to be announced at some point on Friday. The national meet takes place at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH from May 26-28.
