Scott Sabocheck, who has worked in the athletic communications field for the past 11 years, will take over as the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Rochester. His first day will be Friday, July 1, 2022.
 
He assumes his new position following the retirement of Dennis O'Donnell as director. O'Donnell worked at Rochester for 34 years and spent 42 years in the business.
 
His appointment was announced by George VanderZwaag, the Executive Director of Athletics at the University.
 
"Scott has been an important part of the Athletics Communications team for over a decade," said VanderZwaag. "We are excited to have him assume this important leadership role and look forward to continuing our excellence in this aspect of our work."
 
Sabocheck coordinates the materials for the sport-specific web pages for each of Rochester's 23 varsity sports. This includes game recaps, player and coaching biographies, statistics and records, individual photos, action photos, schedules, and event results.
 
Additionally, he has been the key contributor to Rochester's growing social media presence and its web streaming of numerous home events. He manages and creates content for the social networking pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. He also has helped coordinate web streaming operations with SE Video, helping stream home events at Rochester in 12 sports throughout the year.

 His work with social media has increased Rochester's presence considerably over the last several years since the creation of the team pages. The three main athletics accounts have over 8,000 followers combined.
 
He is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America as well as EAST-COMM (Eastern Athletic Communications Association).
 
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the Athletic Communications office at Rochester and am deeply appreciative for the guidance Dennis O'Donnell has offered me in my first 11 years in the business," says Sabocheck. "I thoroughly enjoy promoting the tremendous efforts of our student-athletes at Rochester and look forward to doing so further in this new role."
 
Sabocheck came to the University for an internship in the summer of 2011. His first project was to coordinate information, photos, and other data for Rochester's move to an outside website provider – SIDEARM Sports. At the end of that summer, he earned his baccalaureate degree in Sports Management from St. John Fisher University.
 
He worked on a part-time basis in the UR athletic communications office with his hours and responsibilities growing until he earned an appointment as a full-time assistant in 2017. He was elevated to associate director in 2020.
 
He creates game programs, record books, media guides, and web graphics for the department plus counsels others on campus about the proper use of Rochester's athletic logo. He also is a supervisor for the athletic communications student staff and logs countless hours writing game recaps and compiling results for the department athletics webpage.
 
Rochester's success provides many opportunities to generate positive news. In the 2021-22 academic/athletic year, 11 Rochester student-athletes earned All-America honors and three earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
 
Rochester hosted the 2021 UAA cross country championships for men and women, the 2022 Liberty League softball championships, and a first-round four-team regional for the NCAA Division III baseball playoffs. Since Sabocheck arrived in 2011, Rochester has hosted NCAA competition in cross country, field hockey, men's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball.
 
Before coming to the University, Sabocheck worked as the sports information contact for the Rochester Razorsharks and spent time working at Frontier Field as a baseball scorer for Baseball Info Solutions.
 
He currently resides in Rochester with his wife, Lindsey, and son, Parker.
