Director's Update: Summer 2026

8/27/2026 9:50:00 AM

We are excited for the new academic year!  Our students provide a lot of energy and excitement when they return to campus. Fall teams began arriving in mid-August to begin competition on September 1. Our programs remain very strong, attracting some of the most outstanding students from around the country. We are looking forward to another successful year for our teams!

This year, we welcome the Class of 2030 to campus! This includes 171 students identified as being able to contribute as members of a varsity team. They will be part of continuing a tradition of excellence that spans back to the late 19th century. This year we are excited to celebrate 45 years of Rowing at Rochester, showcasing our program's history and growth. This history includes the addition of Women's Rowing as our 23rd varsity sport in 2009.

George VanderZwaagWe hope you are able to join us for Meliora Weekend, October 1-4, when we host many events on campus. This includes the induction of our newest Hall of Fame class, varsity contests for Football, Women's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Soccer, and Field Hockey, and a number of alumni games.  We will also host our annual All-Varsity Tailgate prior to the football game, along with a post-game reception for football alumni that played for Coach Stark. For a full list of weekend events and to register go to: www.rochester.edu/melioraweekend

This past summer, we continued our work to upgrade and enhance our facilities with the installation of new locker rooms in the Palestra for Volleyball, Women's Basketball, and Men's Basketball. This project builds on the complete upgrades of all of our indoor and outdoor facilities since 2000, the centerpieces being the Goergen Athletic Center and the Prince Outdoor Athletic Complex. Next summer, we continue with the renovation of visiting team locker room space in the Palestra.

As we continue to develop programs and facilities that reflect the quality of our national peers, positioning us to attract the most outstanding students from around the country, your support remains critical to our success.  Thanks for all that you do to support the University and for being part of our team!

Meliora!

George
