UR Men’s Soccer Dominant in Shutout Victory at Keuka

KEUKA PARK, NY – University of Rochester men's soccer didn't allow a shot en route to a 2-0 victory over the Keuka College Wolves on Saturday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

The Yellowjacket defense turned in a stellar performance, holding the Wolves without a shot and to just one corner kick for the entire 90-minute match.

Santino Lupica-Tondo got the start in goal for UR, but didn't face a single volley, while offensively, the 'Jackets got things going early with three corners in the first 10 minutes.

UR got their first shot of the day off the foot of Tony Hypsher, as the senior's 19th-minute shot was blocked before Cory Cangemi saved Hypsher's second shot off a corner.

But while the 'Jackets peppered Cangemi with eight first-half shots, the Wolves' defense kept UR off the scoreboard early.

Cangemi made three first-half saves, the last of which came on Colin Canning's shot with 5:23 left in the half, as the two sides headed into the locker room scoreless, even with the shot differential.

Rochester continued to dominate offensively to start the second, with a pair of early shots by Canning, but Keuka kept UR off the scoreboard until the 67th minute when Nate Lazzara broke through.

On a breakaway following a Keuka turnover, Charlie Shanks found Lazzara on a cross in front of the net to Lazzara his first goal of the year and UR a 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets then doubled their lead just over five minutes late when Othman Belhseine controlled the ball of a Wolves header inside the box and fired a shot past the outstretched Cangemi and into the far left corner of the net, extending UR's lead to 2-0.

That would be all the 'Jackets needed, as Lupica-Tondo and Rochester's back line continued their stellar play, while UR's offense dominated possession the rest of the way to prevent any chance of a comeback and finish off the 2-0 victory.

With the win, UR moves to 3-0 on the year, while Keuka falls to 0-3.

Canning led the Yellowjackets with five shots, while Lazzara and Belhseine each tallied goals, and Shanks an assist.

As a team, UR outshot Keuka, 17-0, and had 15 corner kicks to just one for the Wolves.

The Yellowjackets next continue their three-game road stretch on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when they head crosstown to Henrietta, N.Y. to take on RIT at 7 p.m.
