HENRIETTA, NY –
Kol Bassuk's 36th-minute goal gave Rochester the lead, but the University of Rochester men's soccer and Rochester Institute of Technology would battle to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers controlled the offensive zone early, firing a pair of shots early on in the 12th minute. But
Santino Lupica-Tondo kept RIT off the scoreboard with a save, as UR's offense got going.
Joe Anderson picked up the Yellowjackets' first shot of the match, but Jason Trapp made one of his three saves on the day, keeping the sides scoreless in the 17th minute.
The two sides went back-and-forth for much of the first half until the 'Jackets earned their first corner.
Andrew Moglianesi crossed the ball in, and
Kol Bassuk, standing in at 6'3'', rose above his defender and headed it into the back of the net to give UR a 1-0 lead.
RIT looked to tie things up just before the end of the first half, but Lupica-Tondo made his second save of the night on Jonathan Cohen's shot, giving Rochester a 1-0 lead at the half.
However, just over seven minutes into the second half, Cohen found Daniel Gebura on RIT's first corner of the night, who evened the score at one-all with 37:32 to play.
UR tried to answer quickly, but
Tony Hypsher's 64th-minute shot was saved.
The Yellowjackets and Tigers combined for 10 second-half shots, but neither side was able to put another through the back of the net.
RIT put together the makings of an opportunity in the 79th minute, drawing Lupica-Tondo out of the box, but
Jeremiah Anandarajah made a tremendous play, saving the potential go-ahead goal.
Santi Ponce Ocampo then looked to give UR the lead, but Trapp again made a save to keep the game level at one.
Both sides had chances in the final minutes, but neither could capitalize and the buzzer sounded with the teams still even at one goal apiece.
UR moves to 3-0-1 with the draw, while RIT picks up their third result at 0-1-3.
Hypsher led Rochester with three shots, while Bassuk notched his first career goal. Moglianesi tallied UR's lone assist, while Lupica-Tondo made two saves in goal.
The Yellowjackets next wrap up their three-game road stretch in Geneva, NY on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. against the Hobart Statesmen.
