Men’s Soccer Falls at Hobart

GENEVA, NY – University of Rochester men's soccer suffered their first loss of the year on Saturday, falling to the Hobart College Statesmen, 2-0, at Cozzens Field.

Though the Yellowjackets outshot the Statesmen, 6-3, in the first half, Christian Burkhart made two early saves to keep UR off the scoreboard.

Othman Belhseine picked up the game's first shot just over seven minutes in before Santi Ponce Ocampo put a shot on goal at the 11-minute mark, but Burkhart made one of his three saves.

Tony Hypsher picked up the Yellowjackets' second shot on goal in the 25th minute, but again, Burkhart made a save.

The Statesmen then got their offense going, with three shots on goal before the end of the first half, but Santino Lupica Tondo made three saves to send the two sides into halftime scoreless.

Just 32 seconds into the second half though, Nolan Fierro found the back of the net off Quinn Phillips' assist, and the Statesmen would play from in front to start the second half.

Fierro would add another in the 78th minute off Connor Koschineg's assist, as Hobart finished off a 2-0 victory over the Yellowjackets with another Burkhart save in the 88th minute.

With the loss, UR falls to 3-1-1 on the year, while Hobart moves to 3-1-1.

Shray Parimoo led the Yellowjackets with four shots, while Lupica-Tondo made four saves in goal.

The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back when they continue non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at home against SUNY Geneseo at 7 p.m.
