Kocsis’ Brace Leads Rochester Past Keuka, 5-0

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Seven different Yellowjackets scored or assisted on UR's five goals as the 24th-ranked University of Rochester women's soccer raced past Keuka College en route to its third-straight shutout and a 5-0 victory on Wednesday evening at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

After a few minutes of back-and-forth action, UR quickly took possession and dominated much of the game offensively.

The Yellowjackets earned their first corner of the match in the 9th minute, and just minutes later, Claire Grover's shot was saved by the Wolves' keeper. Coggins then fired a shot wide in the 14th minute, and Emma Cohen added another in the 16th minute, continuing the 'Jackets' volley.

UR then got on the scoreboard in the 26th minute, breaking the seal on Sam Pelcher's goal on Grover's eighth goal of the year, a shot from about 13-yards out off Carolyn Richards' assist, to give UR a 1-0 lead.

Grover then nearly added another in the 29th minute, but Pelcher made one of her nine saves to keep Rochester's lead at just 1-0.

But the one-goal lead stand for long, as in the 37th minute, Natalie Kocsis scored her first of two goals, this one off Riya Kunderan's assist and through the diving Pelcher's hands, to give Rochester a 2-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets would look to add one more before heading to the locker room, but Sarah Martin's 43rd-minute shot was saved by Pelcher, resulting in another corner, one of 11 on the evening for Rochester.

Rochester though, kept the salvo coming in the second half, with four shots over the first three minutes against Pelcher.

Pelcher and the Keuka defense would hold Rochester to a two-goal lead until the 64th minute when Kocsis picked up her second goal of the night. Pelcher saved Martin's shot but couldn't corral it, and Kocsis tapped in the rebound to extend the lead to 3-0.

And even after a goalie change, the Yellowjackets kept on rolling, making it 4-0 in the 71st minute, as Martin, after assisting on one of Kocsis' goals, returned the favor, scoring off Kocsis' assist from the top of the box to give UR a 4-0 lead.

Syd Coggins then made it 5-0 in the 83rd minute, putting the icing on the cake for the Yellowjackets as she chested in Sam Hawkins' cross for her third goal of the year.

The Yellowjackets would keep the offensive charge going as the final horn sounded, with two corners and a pair of shots by Emma Bates in the final 10 minutes, as UR finished off a dominant, 5-0 victory.

No. 24 Rochester moves to 4-0-3 with the win, remaining unbeaten and off to their best start since 2008, while Keuka falls to 2-2-3 with the loss.

Martin led Rochester with five shots, tallying a goal and an assist, while Kocsis led UR with her brace, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Grover added one goal on four shots, Coggins tallied her goal on three shots, and Kunderan and Richards each notched an assist.

In goal for UR, Grace Kuropatkin didn't face a shot in just over 73 minutes, while Becca Rust finished the final 16:59.

As a team, Rochester outshot Keuka, 27-0, and had 11 corner kicks to just one for the Wolves.

The Yellowjackets will look to keep things rolling when they wrap up their road, non-conference slate on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Grantley, Pa. against the York College of Pennsylvania at 11 a.m.
