YORK, PA –
Shray Parimoo found the back of the net off
Kol Bassuk's throw-in just before the end of the first half, as the University of Rochester men's soccer held on to deal York College of Pennsylvania their first defeat, 1-0, on Saturday at Graham Field.
Santino Lupica-Tondo made his lone save of the match just 2:49 into the first half before Rochester got their offense going.
Charlie Shanks picked up the Yellowjackets' first shot of the afternoon, a great chance that just went wide, before
Andrew Moglianesi nearly gave UR the lead, with his 8th-minute shot going off the crossbar.
Tony Hyppsher then forced the Spartans' goalkeeper, Brady Bixler, to make yet another save, one of four on the afternoon, before back-to-back 15th-minute corners for UR.
The Yellowjackets added two more corner kicks in the 21st and 25th minutes, two of UR's six corners, five of which came in the first half and the first 30 minutes of play.
York then got things going on the other end, with a pair of shots from Gavin Bealer and Mitchell Seipt that just went wide.
In the 41st minute, Bixler saved
Othman Belhseine's header, but UR kept possession and eventually found themselves with a throw-in.
Kol Bassuk threw it into the box, and Parimoo buried the loose ball into the right corner of the net to give UR a 1-0 lead just before the half.
The 'Jackets looked to extend their lead to start the second half, as
Joe Anderson put a shot on goal in the 54th minute, and later on, in the 57th minute, Shanks' header went wide right.
Less than a minute later though,
Ben Goldberg nearly made it 2-0, forcing a brilliant save by Bixler off Moglianesi's corner kick.
Down the stretch, both sides had their chances, but neither put a shot on goal over the final 30 minutes of play as Lupica-Tondo and co. pitched their third shutout of the season to finish off a 1-0 victory.
Rochester moves to 5-1-1 with the win, while York falls to 5-1-2 with the loss, their first of the season.
Goldberg led UR with three shots, while Anderson, Belhseine and Shanks each tallied two. Parimoo notched the lone goal of the afternoon for UR, his first of the first, while Lupica-Tondo made one save.
As a team, Rochester outshot the Spartans, 14-7, with five shots on goal to just one for York.
