POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Host Vassar College, ranked 30th in the latest Division III poll closed out the weekend with an 8-1 victory over the University of Rochester women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at the Walker Field House.
Sophomore All-American
Josephine Libby earned Rochester's lone point for the second day in a row, earning a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at #1 singles against Vassar's Tatum Blalock.
The loss drops UR to 1-2 during the early part of its schedule, while Vassar picks up its first win of the campaign, moving to 1-1.
Vassar earned a doubles sweep, earning a quick 3-0 lead. Sofie Shen and Erin McCusker topped Libby at
Sanjana Karnam 8-0 for the opening point. Blalock and Elyse Duley followed with an 8-2 win at #3 over
Jaclyn Dron and Nehan Dania.
At third doubles,
Rola Abouzeina and
Stephanie Kim battled Macey Dowd and Iris Li, but the Brewers combo came away with the 8-6 win.
In singles, Li took her point from Abouzeina at fifth singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 to put the hosts within one point of clinching the match. Dowd earned the clinching point at second singles against Karnam, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Rounding out the match, Dania fell 6-2, 6-2 to Shen at four, Toor was dropped by McCusker 6-2, 6-3 at three and Kim was blanked at number six against Ananya Krishnan. Libby's win capped play for the day at the number one position.
The Yellowjackets next matchup is another road contest at Division I University of Buffalo next Saturday at noon.
