#23 Hamilton Downs UR in Road, Non-Conference Clash

CLINTON, NY – University of Rochester women's lacrosse fell to the 23rd-ranked Hamilton College Continentals, 11-7, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Steuben Field/

Brooke Fiannaca got the scoring started for both sides, as the Yellowjackets got on the scoreboard first on Fiannaca's score from Emma Little with 9:23 to play in the first. And while the Continentals scored the next two on unassisted goals from Aine Cleary and Sarah Creamer, Gracie Giannettino knotted the score at 2-all off Fiannaca's assist with 6:15 left in the opening period.

And with just 16 seconds left until the quarter buzzer, Giannettino added another, this time off Lucy Haggerty's assist, to give Rochester a 3-2 with just seconds left in the first.

However, Clarissa Hurley beat the buzzer with her score with two seconds left in the first, leveling the score at 3-3 headed into the third, before Hamilton kept things rolling into the second.

The Continentals would outscore UR, 3-0 in the second quarter, and add another midway through the third to extend their lead to 7-3, as the 'Jackets were held scoreless for nearly 19 minutes.

Lorelei King finally broke through for the Yellowjackets with 6:47 to play in the third, as Giannettino assisted a pair of goals, King's and Emma Little's just over a minute later, to cut Hamilton's lead to 7-5.

But again, the Continentals answered with Julia Fornasar's score with 4:28 to play in the third, stretching their lead back to three, before another 4-0 run from Hamilton over the next eight minutes extended their lead to six, 11-5, with 11:37 to play.

Haggerty and Alyssa Gorny would add late scores for the 'Jackets, cutting Hamilton's lead down to just four, 11-7, with 6:30 left in the fourth, but the 23rd-ranked Continentals would UR from getting any closer, and eventually finish off the 11-7 victory.
