WALTHAM, MA – Host Brandeis University, ranked #24 in the latest Division III poll, earned an 8-1 victory over the University of Rochester men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at the Gosman Athletic Center.
The two teams are University Athletic Association rivals and have a chance to meet later this season at the conference championships at the end of April, with Saturday's matchup serving as a potential postseason preview.
Rochester (4-4) snaps a three-match win streak with the loss, while the Judges (5-4) win for the first time in their last three matches.
The Yellowjackets got their lone point from first-year
Ahaan Malhotra at the sixth singles spot. Malhotra defeated Brandeis' Aryan Nijhawan in straight sets by a 6-1, 6-3 score.

Kai Yuminaga took the opening set in his matchup at #2 singles with Tommy Harrison, but the Brandeis player completed the comeback victory, winning 6-1 and 6-3 in the next two sets to grab the point.
Rahul Ravi battled Simon Kauppila at #3 singles in a tight matchup, with the Judges player clinching the overall match with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win.
At the top spot, Dylan Walters of Brandeis squared off with
Krish Vennam of UR. Walters earned a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set win.
In the other two singles matches, Brandeis got wins from Aaron Basye over
Kei Ogawa (6-1, 6-0) at #5, and from Alex Merson over
Kavin Shukla (6-0, 1-0, retired) in the #4 spot.
The host Judges got off to a quick start in the match, earning all three doubles points. UR's Ravi and Yuminaga were defeated 8-4 by Harrison and Walters at the top spot in the opening match.
At two, Brandeis earned an 8-5 win from Kauppila and Hunter Levine over Shukla and Vennam in the closest match of the doubles competition.
Brandeis completed the sweep in doubles after Chen Liang and Merson topped
Kenneth Lee and Malhotra by an 8-2 score at three.
The Yellowjackets return to action in New England on Sunday with a matchup against Babson College.
