PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX - The University of Rochester women's tennis team won a battle with crosstown rival RIT on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with an 8-1 victory.

Rochester played on its outdoor Lyman Tennis Center courts for the first time in a dual match this season thanks to the warm and pleasant weather on Wednesday. The win moves the Yellowjackets to 6-8 overall on the season.

After doubles play, the 'Jackets held a 2-1 lead thanks to wins from their first and third doubles teams. Jaclyn Dron and Jasmin Toor blanked their opponent at #3 for the opening point of the match and Josephine Libby and Rola Abouzeina teamed for an 8-3 win at #1 to put Rochester ahead 2-0.

To close doubles, RIT's number two team of Gabby Donohue and Abby Murray came away with an 8-3 win over Sanjana Karnam and Neha Dania for the Tigers (4-9) lone point of the match.

Five of the six singles matches were straight set wins from Rochester. Abouzeina was terrific in her win at #3, defeating Donohue 6-0, 6-1. Toor earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Murray at four and Rochester was up 4-1 on the team scoreboard.

At the top spot, Libby clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 showing against Kirsten Auble.

Karnam followed with a win in the lone 3-set match of the day at number two. Her opponent, Jackie Drozd, took the opening game 6-3, but the UR first-year player rallied with a 6-1 win in the second and took the match after a 10-6 tiebreaking third frame.
