Colgate Tops Rochester Despite Libby's Singles Win

HAMILTON, NY – Sophomore Josephine Libby earned the lone point for the Rochester women's tennis team in a 6-1 loss at Division I Colgate University on Saturday morning at the Abrahamson Tennis Country.

Libby earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at #1 singles for Rochester, topping Colgate's Amelia Galin in straight sets. The win was her 20th singles victory of the season, ranking just one shy of cracking the single-season top ten in UR program history.

Colgate (12-6) swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, as Division I scoring rules count all three doubles matches for one team point.

Rochester's third doubles team of Jasmin Toor and Jaclyn Dron dropped the closest match in doubles, falling 6-2 to Emily Untermeyer and Sasha Herman. At number two, UR's Sanjana Karnam and Stephanie Kim were upended 6-1 by Katerina Atallah and Natalie Fuller. The Raiders completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 shutout win at number one, with Amelia Galin and Emme Levenson topping Libby and Neha Dania.

All six singles matches went in straight sets, with Libby's match at number one being the closest of the batch.

Kim fell to Fuller 6-2, 6-0 at number five and Addie Eklund made it 3-0 Colgate with her 6-0, 6-3 win at #3 over Toor.

The clinching point went to Levenson at the number two spot against Karnam, with Rochester's first-year player being upended 6-3, 6-0.

After Jordan Ben-Shmuel topped Dania 6-2, 6-2 at four to push the lead to 5-0 Colgate, UR's Libby broke the shutout with the Rochester win at the top spot. Wrapping up the match, Dron was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at sixth singles.

Rochester (6-9) closes out its regular season on Sunday with a morning matchup at home against Hamilton College.
