Colgate Wins 7-0 Over Rochester

HAMILTON, NY – The University of Rochester men's tennis team held its own in all three doubles matches, but ended up falling by a 7-0 score to Division I Colgate University on Saturday afternoon at the Abrahamson Tennis Courts.

Rochester's record falls to 6-8 on the season, with one matchup remaining in the regular season. UR hosts Hamilton College on Sunday afternoon at the Lyman Tennis Center, before heading to Florida next week for the UAA Championships.

Colgate (5-15), took the one doubles point, winning all three matches but not until Rochester was able to win several games in each match.

Both the #1 doubles team of Kai Yuminaga and Krish Vennam, along with the #2 team of Rahul Ravi and Kavin Shukla were narrow 6-4 losers in their matches. At three, the Raider pair topped UR's Kenneth Lee and Ahaan Malhotra 6-3.

During singles play, Vennam had the most success for the Yellowjackets, taking the opening set in his match against Jack Selati and the #1 spot. Vennam won 6-2 to open the match, but Selati responded with 7-5 and 10-2 wins to swipe the point.

At two, Yuminaga dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Benito Vlassis while Ravi was topped by Ben Graham 6-0, 6-1 at number three.

Colgate's Max Litton won 6-0, 6-2 over Shukla in the four spot, while Kei Ogawa battled Aidan Lee at five, eventually falling in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The Raiders' Tejas Gupta earned the match-clinching point at sixth singles, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Lee.
