Seniors Sent Off With Win Over Regionally Ranked Hamilton

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester men's tennis team sent out its two seniors with a victory in the regular season finale, defeating a regionally ranked Hamilton College squad by a 6-3 score on Sunday afternoon at the Lyman Tennis Center.
 
Both Rochester seniors, Kenneth Lee and Kai Yuminaga played key roles for the Yellowjackets (7-8), combining for three of UR's six points. Lee was one of three double-winners on the day, as Kavin Shukla and Rahul Ravi also won in both singles and doubles.
 
Hamilton, regionally ranked #15 in the Northeast region, falls to 2-11 with the loss.
 
The Yellowjackets started out with a pair of wins in three tough battles. Ravi and Shukla paired together at third doubles for the opening point, winning 8-4 for the Yellowjackets.
 
In the other two doubles matches, the teams split a pair of tiebreaker contests. At one, Hamilton's Anson Anderson and Gianni Esposito edged out Yuminaga and Krish Vennam 8-7 (4), but Lee and teammate Ahaan Malhotra responded with an 8-7 (6) win at number two, giving Rochester the 2-1 lead.
 
During singles play, UR posted three straight set wins at #2, #3 and #4 to clinch the match. Yuminaga won 6-3, 6-3 over Coby Feldman at the number two slot while Ravi was posting a 6-4, 7-5 win over Nicolas Gritz in the four slot.
 
Shukla earned a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win at three against Eric Stein and clinched the match for the Yellowjackets just three points into singles play.
 
Hamilton got a three-set wins from Anson Anderson over Vennam at number one and Brian Wang over Kei Ogawa at the five slot to grab two points back.
 
Lee finished off his final home match with a three-set win at number six against Neal Gupta. Lee won the opening set in a tiebreak 7-6 (0) before Gupta got even with a 6-3 second set win. In the third set tiebreaker, Lee won 10-6 to finish the match off in style.
 
Next weekend, Rochester heads to Altamonte Springs, Florida for the annual UAA Championships.
