ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – University of Rochester women's tennis fell to the 31st-ranked Brandeis University Judges, 5-0, in the 7th-Place match of the 2023 University Athletic Association Tennis Championship on Saturday at Sanlando Park.
The Judges picked up their first doubles win at the three-spot, with Ella Chase and Cecilia Denis topping UR's
Sanjana Karnam and
Jaclyn Dron, 8-3.
Brandeis then finished off the doubles sweep with a pair of competitive doubles matches, falling at both No. 1 and No. 2-doubles, 8-6. At the two-spot, Brandeis' Sabrina Loui and Nancy Zhang topped
Jasmin Toor and
Stephanie Kim, 8-6, before Bhakti Parwani and Rebecca Suarez, the 10th-ranked doubles pair in the Northeast region, edged
Josephine Libby and
Rola Abouzeina, 8-6.
In singles action, Parwani took a close first set over Libby, 7-5, at No. 1-singles, while Toor and Anastasia Sia stood tied at 6-6 at No 4-singles before Brandeis wrapped up the match with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles.
At No. 5-singles, Ella Chase defeated
Neha Dania, 6-0, 6-2; before Ella Subramanian clinched the win for Brandies with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6-singles over
Stephanie Kim.
Also in unfinished singles action, Karnam led 5-0, in set two against Phoebe Tamoki at No. 3-singles, after falling in set one, 6-2.
With the loss, Rochester wraps up the 2023 campaign at 6-13 (0-3 UAA), finishing 8th in the UAA, while #31 Brandeis moves to 10-10 on the year and finishes 7th.
