Brian Davidson has joined the University of Rochester football coaching staff for the 2023 season.

He will serve as the Yellowjackets Special Teams Coordinator as well as running backs and tight ends coach.

Davidson comes to the River Campus after serving as Special Teams Coordinator for the last two seasons at John Carroll University. He also coached outside linebackers in 2022 and tight ends in 2021 with the Blue Streaks.

Over the last two years, the JCU special teams units have been nationally recognized as one of the top in Division III, statistically ranking as the top punting team (41.7 net average) in 2022 while ranking among the top-25 teams in kickoff returns (16th), kickoff coverage (22nd) and touchback percentage (4th). The Blue Streaks had the overall #1 special teams unit in Division III in 2022.

Davidson coached Division III All-American punter Grant Gonya and had three All-OAC special team players (Gonya x2, Yanni Volas) during his most recent stint in University Heights. Also, Tyler Mintz ranked 4th in Division III in kickoff return yardage, boosting JCU's stats.

During his time as an undergraduate Assistant Coach, Davidson and the JCU team reached the Division III playoffs twice, including winning an OAC title and reaching the national semifinals in 2016. At Ohio State, the Buckeyes appeared in the Fiesta Bowl in 2019 and reached the FBS National Championship game in 2020.

Davidson graduated with a degree in Sports Studies from John Carroll in 2019.
