University of Rochester women's tennis kicked off its 2024 spring season with a dominant, 9-0 win over the Nazareth College Golden Flyers on Saturday morning inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
The Yellowjackets (1-0) made quick work of the Golden Flyers (4-5) in doubles action, allowing just three points total in the three doubles matches.
Neha Dania and Lauran Kallas gave Rochester the lead with an 8-0 win at No. 3-doubles over Anna Spencer and Erica Muscato, before
Sanjana Karnam and
Josephine Libby took down Catherine Zak and Kenna Ellis, 8-1, at No. 1-doubles.
Jaclyn Dron and
Jasmin Toor then made it a doubles sweep, topping Alie Klee and Sarah Stone at No. 2-doubles, 8-2.
Kallas again got the Yellowjackets started in singles play, sweeping Stone at the No. 4-spot, 6-0, 6-0, while #33/9 Libby scored the match-clinching point with another sweep, 6-0, 6-0, of Zak at No. 1-singles.
Karnam and Toor kept things rolling at No. 2 and No. 3-singles, respectively, with Karnam topping Ellis: 6-0, 6-2, while Toor defeated Klee: 6-1, 6-0.
Rochester then wrapped up the shutout at the No. 5 and 6-spots, with Dania and Dron each taking home 6-1, 6-0 victories. Dania topped Victoria Cioni, while Dron defeated Muscato to seal the 9-0 victory.
All six Yellowjacket competitors were double winners, while Kallas held her three opponents in doubles and singles action without a point.
The 'Jackets will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 11 when they travel to the face the RIT Tigers at Midtown Athletic Club starting at 3:30 pm.
