'Jackets Move to 2-0 Following Comeback Win Over RIT

In a matchup between two local rivals, the University of Rochester women's tennis team rallied for a 6-3 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club.

Rochester (2-0) trailed 2-1 after doubles and ultimately fell behind by two points after the opening match of singles, but finished the match strong winning the final five singles points to earn the victory.

UR's Neha Dania and Lauren Kallas each were double-winners. Senior Jaclyn Dron won the clinching point at sixth singles for the Yellowjackets.

RIT (3-1) started out the match with a win at the top doubles match as Maya Clinard and Kira Kronenberg won 8-1 over the team of Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam.

Dania and Kallas rebounded to even the match for Rochester, blanking Gabby Donohue and Anika Galkiewicz 8-0 at third doubles.

In the rubber match among the doubles lineup, the #2 team of Jackie Drozd and Abby Murray won a tight 8-6 affair over Dron and Jasmin Toor to put the Tigers up 2-1.

The Tigers kept the momentum going into singles as Kronenberg topped Libby at the #1 spot in the order 6-1, 6-0 to go ahead 3-1 on the team scoreboard.

After that it was all UR, with Kallas starting the comeback following a 6-3, 6-0 win over Murray at four.

In the number two match, Karnam won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 over Clinard to level the overall match at 3-3.

Toor kept up the 'Jackets strong singles play with her 6-1, 6-4 win over Donohue at number three, putting Rochester within one of clinching.

That set up Dron for the clincher at number six as she won 7-5, 6-1 over Galkiewicz.

Closing up shop was Dania who won the closest match of the six in singles play, edging past Drocz 7-6 (6), 7-5.

Rochester's next match is scheduled for next Sunday when the Yellowjackets host Division I Colgate University at 10 am in the Goergen Athletic Center.
