The University of Rochester men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision against Division I Colgate University on Saturday, with sophomore
Kavin Shukla providing the point for Rochester in the match at the Goergen Athletic Center.

UR's loss is the first on the young season, with the Yellowjackets dropping to 2-1. The Raiders move to 2-6 on the year.

In doubles, Rochester was able to hang with the Raiders, scoring at least five game wins in the first and second doubles events.

At one,
Kai Yuminaga and
Ethan Samora were the closest, falling by an 8-6 score to Josh Israel and Benito Vlassis. In the number two slot,
Krish Vennam and
Rahul Ravi battled, but fell 8-5 against Parker McGowan and Aidan Lee.

To complete the sweep of doubles, Colgate's John Fazli and Aidan Chung won 8-3 over
David Riccio and
Josh Chu.

As play shifted to singles, Rochester's Shukla and Vennam found success, with Shukla winning his match at four against Lee by a 6-4, 6-4 score.

At one, Vennam took on Vlassis and split the first two sets, falling 6-1 before rebounding with a 7-5 second set win. In the super-tiebreak, the Colgate number one player emerged with a 10-6 triumph.

The Raiders added two more straight set wins at positions two and three to clinch the match. Israel won 6-3, 6-1 over Yuminaga, while Graham defeated Ravi 6-4, 6-3.

Rounding out the match, Gupta topped Samora at the number five position 8-2 in a super-set, and Mikey Weitz won over
Kei Ogawa 8-6.

UR's next match will take place at home on Saturday February 24 against Ithaca College at 2 pm.
