University of Rochester men's tennis picked up an 8-1 win over visiting Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon inside the Goergen Athletic Center, winning a pair of doubles matches and sweeping all six singles matches against the Bombers (1-1).
The Yellowjackets (3-1) got things going in doubles action, with two wins in the first and third matches.
Kavin Shukla and
Josh Chu combined to pick up UR's first point of the match, topping Ithaca's Jacob Wachs and Nicolas Luis, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles, before
Kai Yuminaga and
Ethan Samora scored another 8-3 win over Gijs Fidler and Emiliano Pedrero at No. 1 doubles.
Ithaca would win its lone match of the night at No. 2 doubles, as Siddharth Vaada and Eric Dubilirer won the tiebreak over
Krish Vennam and
Rahul Ravi, 8-7 (7-5), but it'd be all Rochester from there.
Shukla earned UR's first win in singles action: 6-1, 6-1, over Dubilirer at the No. 4 spot, while Ravi next down Vaada: 6-4, 6-4, at the three spot.
After winning the first set via tiebreak, 7-6 (7-2), Yuminaga made quick work of Fidler at No. 2 singles to clinch the match, while Vennam wrapped up the Yellowjackets' first set of wins at No. 1 singles, going to a super tiebreak to defeat Luis: 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 10-4.
David Riccio scored another win for UR in the sixth-singles match, topping Ean Lantzy, 8-3, before
Kei Ogawa and Pedrero went to another super tiebreak, with Ogawa winning: 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 10-8.
The Yellowjackets next take on the United States Coast Guard Academy in a neutral-site matchup in Orlando, FL on Sunday, March 10.
