Women’s Tennis Overpowers Bentley 6-1

COCOA BEACH, FL – The University of Rochester women's tennis team rebounded from a loss in its opening match during the team's spring break trip with a 6-1 victory over Division II Bentley University on Monday at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach.

Junior co-captain Josephine Libby secured the match clinching point in singles, as the Yellowjackets (3-3) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the best-of-seven match scored by Division I and II rules. Libby was one of three double-winners on the day, as Jasmin Toor and Jaclyn Dron also won in both singles and doubles play.

Rochester was able to take the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. After Bentley (4-9) won the opening match at third doubles by a 6-2 score, UR's second team of Dron and Toor responded with a 6-4 win to pull even.

The top doubles pair from Rochester, Libby and Sanjana Karnam, was the deciding point, edging out a thrilling 7-6 (7-3) win in a tiebreak to put UR up 1-0 overall.

As play turned to singles, Neha Dania won the opening point at fourth singles, blanking Hannah Gould 6-0, 6-0 to put the 'Jackets in front 2-0. Toor followed suit with her 6-3, 6-0 win at number three defeating Libby Keefe.

Libby then earned the fourth and deciding point for Rochester with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top spot in the order against Adriana Hiraldo.

UR kept going with its strong play as Dron topped Taylor Morris 6-2, 6-4 at the five slot and Sahithi Mathukumilli won 6-3, 6-1 over Rachel Holden at six.

Bentley earned its lone point of the day in the final match, as Maria Mella topped Karnam in a three-set match, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

Rochester's next match is set for March 24 at home against Vassar College.
