CLEMSON, SC – Two nationally ranked squads took to the water during spring break rowing action down in Clemson, South Carolina on Friday, as the University of Rochester battled crosstown rival RIT.
The two squads battled in three 1000-meter races, with the 14th-ranked Tigers edging out the 15th-ranked Yellowjackets in all three events. Both teams raced a 1V and 2V boat in each set.
During the opening piece, rowed from a started, RIT's 1V posted a seven second win over Rochester. Meanwhile the 2V from RIT edged out Rochester's second boat by approximately four seconds.
The second race was started on the fly, as the boats rowed into the starting line, with RIT's top entry again winning, this time by nine seconds. UR's 1V topped the RIT 2V in a tight race, while UR's 2V boat was a bit further back.
In the final race, Rochester's 1st Varsity boat kept in touch with RIT's 1V throughout the race, keeping the margin the closest on the day, with the Tigers winning by just four seconds. The Rochester 2V fell again for the third time, with RIT's 2V posting a winning margin of 14 seconds.
