CLINTON, NY – The University of Rochester tennis team fell to host Hamilton College 8-1 on Friday evening in non-league action at the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
Rochester (3-5) got its lone win from junior captain
Josephine Libby at the number one singles spot in the order. Libby was a straight-set winner over Hannah Apsey, posting set scores of 6-4 and 7-6 (5) to earn her 12th singles win of the season.
Hamilton (4-2) started out strong sweeping the doubles matches, all by 8-4 scores or better, going up 3-0 in the team match. UR's top doubles team of Libby and
Sanjana Karnam was the toughest point, falling to their Hamilton foes Apsey and Stephanie Pratt by an 8-4 score.
As play turned to singles, the Continentals Shannon Cicero and Samantha Rainero at spots six and five, clinched the match for the hosts. Cicero won over UR's
Sahithi Mathukumilli 6-0, 6-0, while Rainero topped
Jaclyn Dron 6-4, 6-1.
Hamilton's wins continued at three and four from Pratt and Grace Qian. Pratt defeated
Jasmin Toor 6-1, 6-1, with Qian earning a 6-2, 6-2 win.
After Libby's win at number one, Karnam fell in the final match at second singles to Priyanka Challapalli 6-4 and 7-5.
Rochester remains at Hamilton for another match on Saturday, playing a neutral site contest against 18th-ranked Amherst College.
