Rowing Takes to the Water in Five Events During Spring Season

3/5/2024 10:00:00 AM

The University of Rochester rowing team will hit the water five times during the spring semester, completing its championship season beginning during its spring break trip to South Carolina in mid-March.

Leading the team in 2023-24 is Interim Head Coach D.J. Civiletti who is in his second season with the team overall. He served as an Assistant Coach last season with the Yellowjackets.

Rochester's season got underway in the fall with four events. UR was highly successful during those competitions, competing at the Ithaca College Cayuga Sprints, Head of the Genesee, Head of the Charles and Head of the Fish races.

This spring, the Yellowjackets kick off competition on March 15, battling a local rival, RIT. The race will take place over 800 miles from campus though, in Clemson, South Carolina, as both teams will be on their spring break training trips.

After a couple weeks off, UR heads to Ithaca to take part in the Cayuga Duels race with several upstate New York schools on April 6.

The championship season begins on April 20 with UR heading to Saratoga Springs to take part in the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships.

Two weeks later on May 3, the 'Jackets return to the same location at Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs for the 2024 Liberty League Championships. UR looks to improve on its fourth place finish in the Varsity 8 event from the 2023 event.

Rochester closes out the regular season slate by competing at the National Invitational Rowing Championships on May 12 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Should the Yellowjackets qualify, the NCAA Division III Rowing Championships will wrap up the campaign from May 31-June 1 at Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio.
