OWINGS MILLS, MD – Host Stevenson University scored three late goals, all coming in the final half of the fourth quarter to rally past the University of Rochester 15-14 in a women's lacrosse non-league matchup on a rainy Saturday at Mustang Stadium.
The Yellowjackets (2-2) were able to hold a lead for most of the game, consistently fending off the Mustangs (2-3) after the home team got within a goal or two, but the late rally proved to be the difference.
Erin Steinberg scored the game winning goal with just 16 seconds remaining in regulation and afterwards, the Mustangs secured the key last draw control to wind down the clock.
Rochester's leading scorer in the defeat was graduate student
Emily Schillinger who finished with a career-high six points, coming on five goals and one assist. Schillinger's five goals came on five shot attempts.
Gracie Giannettino added five points with one goal and four assists while
Alyssa Gorny recorded two goals and two assists for four points.

Anna Rogers had a hat trick and teammate
Lorelei King chipped in a pair of goals and one assist for three points.
UR's defensive effort was strong, with the Yellowjackets causing 12 turnovers in the game. Stevenson ended up turning the ball over 19 times on the day.
Grace Crochiere finished with five caused turnovers, while
Campbell Sy and
Jenna Ufberg added two each.
Giannettino had four assists, all in the first quarter.
Crochiere also led UR in draws with six, and ground balls with five. Ufberg finished with four ground balls and three draws. In the cage,
Ava Saffren made six key saves and scooped up three ground balls.
Kara Yarusso led all players on the day with eight points for Stevenson. She scored six times and had two assists. Kellyann Coccia and Isabelle VanEmburgh each had three goals for the Mustangs while three players tallied once. In goal, Regan Tolberg played 52 minutes and made three saves, picking up the win.
Stevenson started out the scoring after four minutes with Yarusso's first of the game. UR's Rogers followed with a goal and King made it 2-1 Rochester before Coccia struck for the game-tying goal with 5:30 left in the first.
A goal from Schillinger, off a feed from Giannettino, gave Rochester the lead it would hold until the final minute of the game. Rogers completed the first quarter scoring with a goal off Giannettino's fourth assist to make it 4-2 UR.
Crochiere notched a goal to make the lead three, but Stevenson responded with a pair of goals to make the score 5-4 Rochester.
The Yellowjackets got a player-up goal from Schillinger to extend the lead back to two, but her and Yarusso traded goals over the final six minutes of the quarter to move into halftime with Rochester up 7-6.
UR's best quarter was the third, as Rochester tallied six times to hold a 13-10 lead going into the final period. Gorny scored all of her points in the quarter, including two goals in the final three minutes to push UR in front by three.
In the fourth, the Mustangs got an early score from Sophia Murray and followed that with a Coccia goal to make the score 13-12 UR.
Giannettino stopped the run with a big score with 9:30 remaining, boosting the margin back to two, but Coccia and Yarusso scored just over a minute apart to pull the Mustangs even.
With all the momentum, Stevenson gained the ensuing draw control with five minutes left, but the 'Jackets made a stop on defense, as Steinberg was denied by Saffren in net.
At the other end, Gorny got a good look at the cage, but missed wide, eventually leading to a shot clock violation turnover. Rochester's Crochiere got the ball back though, and ran coast-to-coast to give UR another crack at regaining the lead.
Stevenson then forced a UR turnover and after a good clear attempt and timeout, Steinberg found the net with 16 seconds on the clock for the game-winner.
Rochester is back in action on Monday with a 5 pm matchup against Allegheny College.
