BROCKPORT, NY – In a split squad weekend, the University of Rochester women's track and field team posted several solid finishes and earned a total of seven All-Atlantic Regional qualifying performances on day one at the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
Overall, UR piled up ten top-5 results and had one event win, coming from
Sab Lin in the 1500 meters.
Lin crossed the finish in the event in 4:57.71, establishing a new personal-best.
Among the highlights were three runners in the 10000 meters qualifying for the regional meet during the first racing action of the day.
Meredith Crockett finished as runner-up in 40:03.96,
Andie Burton was fourth in 40:16.63 and
Alyssa Horng ended sixth in 40:22.57.
In the field,
Cora Rose hit the standard for regionals in the discus with a toss of 38.49 meters, while teammate
Deziree Garrick reached the AARTFC standard in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.81 meters, also recording a PR. Rose finished third with Garrick placing fourth.
Aimee Oszer was runner up in the javelin with a throw of 33.58 meters and joining Rose and Garrick in the top-8 in the discus and javelin were
Madison Vargas (5th, 36.32m) and
Liv Ilasz (8th, 41.01m), respectively.
Hatch led UR in two events on Sunday.
Rose, Garrick and Vargas also secured top-8 results in the shot put, led by Rose's fourth place finish (11.48m).
During the multi-event competition, senior
Ashley Heffernan made it a clean sweep, posting first place finishes in all four of day one's events. Heffernan hit AARTFC times in both the 100 meter hurdles (14.55 seconds) and the 200 meters (24.96 seconds). The senior also won the heptathlon high jump with a mark of 1.54 meters and shot put with a personal-best 9.17 meter mark. Heffernan has 2,933 points after day one.
Joining Heffernan in the heptathlon was
Julia Largett who is fifth after the opening four events with 2,028 points. Largett was fourth in the 100 hurdles with a PR of 16.92 seconds and finished 5th in the 200 meters at 28.29 seconds.
UR's top 800 meter runner was
Julia Lantner who crossed the finish in 2:24.85, ranking third in the field. Later in the 5000 meters,
Sabrina Terando was fifth in 19:08.14.
Tina Kyriacou paced the UR sprinters in the 100 meters with a seventh place finish in 13.13 seconds. Teammate
Maya Hatch ran the 100 meter hurdles in 18.26 seconds, finishing eighth. Hatch also was Rochester's top finishing 200 meter runner, clocking in with a time of 27.71 seconds.
Sophomore
Ashleigh Barrett led the 'Jacket jumpers, finishing eighth in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump. Barrett's marks included a 10.25 meter leap in the triple jump and 4.77 meter long jump.
After day two of the multi-event competition wraps up on Monday, the next meet for the Yellowjackets is set for next Saturday at the SUNY Geneseo Quad Meet.
