Hamilton Tops UR in Mid-Week, Non-Conference Action

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – University of Rochester women's lacrosse fell to the Hamilton College Continentals, 16-6, on a rainy Wednesday evening inside Edwin Fauver Stadium. With the loss, UR drops to 8-6 on the year, while the Continentals move to .500 at 6-6 on the year.

Julia Lee broke the seal and got the scoring started for the Continentals, as the visitors opened the scoring with three straight to take a lead they'd never relinquish. Lee scored a pair of unassisted goals over the first three-and-a-half minutes before Aine Cleary found Sarah Stonestreet at the 10:53 mark to give Hamilton a 3-0 lead.

Emily Schillinger got UR on the scoreboard less than a minute later, scoring her first of five goals on a free-position shot just shy of the 10-minute mark of the first, cutting Hamilton's lead to 3-1. But the Continentals won the ensuing draw control and quickly answered, scoring the next three goals of the period to take a 6-1 lead.

And while Schillinger scored two more to make it a 6-3 game before the first-quarter buzzer sounded, the Continentals would outscore the Yellowjackets, 6-1 in the second, tallying the first five goals of the period to open up an 11-3 lead.

Gracie Giannettino found Schillinger for her second goal of the night after Schillinger's initial shot went wide with 1:58 left in the first, and after Grace Crochiere picked up the draw, Kassi Boehl netted the assist on Schillinger's third score, pulling UR within three, 6-3, with 27 seconds left in the first.

Both teams would hold serve for the first five-plus minutes of the second before Hamilton got back on the scoreboard, kickstarting a 5-0 run with three goals over a two-minute span.

Up 9-3, the Continentals added two more before Schillinger got Rochester back on the board, this time on an assist from Anna Rogers with 1:16 left in the first half, but again, the Continentals would answer, netting another score with 10 seconds until the halftime buzzer to take a 12-4 lead at the break.

Hamilton extended its lead to 13-4 on Alex Orlando's free-position goal to start the third, while Schillinger tallied another off another Rogers assist just shy of the nine-minute mark of the third, whipping one behind her back for her fifth goal of the night, matching a career-high.

The Continentals outscored UR, 3-1 in the third and then equaled the Yellowjackets in the fourth, as Hamilton's defense held firm despite scoring just four second-half goals to finish off the 16-6 victory.

Heidi Donovan scored the 'Jackets' lone fourth-quarter goal, as Hamilton's goalies notched four second-half saves and held UR to just six shots on goal, with the visitors outshooting Rochester for the contest, 31-16.

Schillinger led UR offensively with a career-high five goals, while Rogers tallied a pair of assists.

Crochiere, Abbey Smith and Jenna Ufberg each earned three draw controls, while Lorelei King picked up a team-high three ground balls.

Defensively, Crochiere forced three turnovers, while both Ava Saffren and Nikki Cassara saw time in goal, combining for three saves.

The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back when they host No. 6 William Smith on Senior Day on Saturday, April 20 at 12:00 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
