Four Recognized as CSA Scholar-Athletes

University of Rochester men's squash juniors Jake Koeppel, Alejandro Porras, Tom Whiteley and Omar Zakaria earned College Squash Association (CSA) Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2023-24 season, as announced by the CSA.
 
The Scholar-Athlete Award is granted to varsity juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, earned at least two varsity letters, participated in the majority of the team's matches in the top 10 of the lineup during the season, and achieved a high academic standing at their institution.
 
Koeppell, a finance major, went 7-5 for the Yellowjackets this season, playing in the three, four and five spots. The Boston, MA native went 5-2 out of the five spot, helping the Yellowjackets to their fifth-straight Liberty League title.
 
A mechanical engineering major, Porras played in five matches for UR, going 1-4, picking up a win at the three spot in the Liberty League Semifinals vs. Denison.
 
Whiteley was one of UR's team captains for the 2023-24 season, playing most of his matches out of the seven spot. Overall, the mechanical engineering major went 6-7, with a 2-1 record at No. 6 and 3-3 at No. 7.
 
Zakaria was also one of the Yellowjackets' team captains, playing all but one match at the No. 3 spot. A First-Team All-Liberty League selection, Zakaria, an electrical and computer engineering major, finished the year with a 12-3 record, including an 11-1 performance at the third spot on the ladder.
 
The Yellowjackets wrapped up the 2023-24 campaign with a 10-3 record, winning their fifth-straight Liberty League Championship as well as the Hoehn Cup, the CSA's 'B' Division Tournament to finish the year ranked 13th.
