UR Sweeps Singles in Big Win vs. Geneseo

All six singles players won their points in straight-set fashion as the University of Rochester women's tennis team closed out the home portion of its 2024 season with an impressive 8-1 win over SUNY Geneseo on Friday evening at the Goergen Athletic Center.

Rochester finishes the regular season with a 5-11 dual match record and will next compete at next weeks UAA Championship tournament down in Florida. Geneseo drops to 8-5 with the loss.

Friday's match score was UR's second biggest win margin during the season, trailing only the 9-0 win during the season-opening win over Nazareth back in early February.

In doubles action, both the Rochester first doubles team of Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam and third doubles team of Jaclyn Dron and Jasmin Toor were 8-1 winners to put Rochester in front early.

Geneseo's second doubles team earned the Knights' lone point on the day, winning 8-4 over UR's Sahithi Mathukumilli and Neha Dania.

Up 2-1 after doubles, Rochester looked comfortable in singles play, winning each match to ultimately post the 8-1 victory.

Libby won 6-0, 6-0 at number one, topping Natalie Pipes. Karnam followed that with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number three doubles to put Rochester on top 4-1.

UR's number two player, Toor, ended up earning the match-clinching point with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Alex Galle.

Dron kept the singles surge going with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Samathan Rava at four.

Closing out the match were quick wins from Dania at five and Mathukumilli at sixth. Dania won 6-1, 6-1 over Abigail Rockwood, while Mathukumilli won 6-0, 6-0 in her match against Katie Kujawa.
