ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – No. 8-seeded University of Rochester women's tennis fell to the No. 5-seeded and 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University Tartans, 5-0, in the consolation semifinals of the 2024 University Athletic Association (UAA) Tennis Championships on Saturday at Sanlando Park.
The Tartans took all three doubles matches to go up 3-0 on the 'Jackets. Divya Venkatarama and Anna Chow gave CMU its first point with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over
Neha Dania and
Sahithi Mathukumilli, while Anika Joshi and Ainika Hou topped
Jaclyn Dron and
Jasmin Toor at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Then at No. 1 doubles, Sarah Yang and Danna Taylor finished off the doubles sweep, topping
Josephine Libby and
Sanjana Karnam, 8-2.
In singles action, Hou gave the Tartans their first win, topping Mathukumilli at the six spot, 6-0, 6-1, while Joshi clinched the match for Carnegie Mellon, defeating Dron at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
In the unfinished matches, both
Josephine Libby and
Jasmin Toor faced singles foes ranked in the top 20 of NCAA Division III and took three points in the opening set but fell, 6-3.
With the loss, Rochester falls to 5-13 on the year, while the Tartans, ranked 15th in Division III and third in the Atlantic Region, move to 12-6 with the win.
The Yellowjackets will wrap up their time in Florida with the UAA seventh-place match against either No. 6-seeded Brandeis or No. 7-seeded NYU on Sunday, April 28 at 8:30 a.m.
